The words private and tailor-made can describe very different arrangements. One proposal might include a driver only; another might include a guide inside attractions, reserved tickets and hotel arrangements. Comparing the number of destinations or the headline price alone will not tell you which fits your family.
Understand the three different roles
At China Storyline, private transport, guiding and accompanying interpretation are services to discuss separately. They may be combined in a proposal, but none should be assumed merely because another is included. Start by describing what you need help doing.
A family that enjoys exploring independently might only need selected transfers and a guided day. Friends interested in conversation or a particular appointment might request language support. The right combination depends on the route and the actual situation.
| Service | What to discuss | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Private transport | Route, pickup, vehicle, luggage, child seats, hours | An English-speaking driver or cross-border permission. |
| Guide | Language, interests, guiding hours, attraction access | Every ticket, meal or evening is included. |
| Accompanying interpreter | Languages, setting, duration and subject matter | Certified documents, legal or medical expertise. |
Choose guided days where they add real value
A guide may help make a museum visit more focused, connect several parts of a complex day or explain a place beyond its most familiar photograph. Tell them what your children enjoy and what makes a visit feel too long. Guiding for a family should not simply repeat an adult lecture at a slower speed.
You can still keep independent time. Ask whether the guide accompanies you inside each place, when the day starts and finishes, and how extra hours would be handled. Do not assume someone is on call throughout the whole holiday unless that support is expressly agreed.
Specify the vehicle before comparing quotations
Give the total number of adults and children plus the amount and type of luggage. Ask for the vehicle category and seating arrangement, not simply a promise of a spacious car. Confirm suitable child restraints when needed and how they will be provided.
Clarify whether airport or station waiting, tolls, parking and driver overtime are included. For Hong Kong and mainland China travel, ask specifically about the border crossing and whether vehicles change. A cheap-looking transfer can be a different service from the one you imagined.
Request interpretation for a defined situation
Tell us the languages, purpose, setting and approximate time needed. Accompanying interpretation can be discussed as optional support for communication during your visit. It is not automatically a certified translation service, specialist advice or a substitute for a licensed professional.
If a meeting involves confidential information, explain the handling requirements before sharing documents. For legal, medical or other specialist matters, ask for appropriately qualified support through the relevant professional channel. A general travel interpreter should not be presented as that specialist.
Look for a written plan with visible limits
Ask the provider to distinguish confirmed arrangements from suggested experiences. A named attraction in an outline is not the same as a reserved entrance. A sample hotel photograph is not confirmation of a room type. Make the proposal specific enough that both sides understand the same trip.
Compare inclusions and exclusions line by line. The most helpful quotation makes the choices clear: which services are optional, what could change and how the price would change if you altered the route.
- Day-by-day route, overnight locations and realistic transfer time.
- Hotel names or agreed standard, room configuration and meals.
- Guiding language, service hours and reserved attraction arrangements.
- Transport scope, child seats and any cross-border handling.
- Payment schedule, change terms, cancellation terms and weather contingencies.
Start a personal conversation without oversharing
Your first message can be simple: approximate dates, party size, children's age range, destinations and two or three priorities. Add any walking, food or language requirements that affect the plan. You do not need to send identity documents or payment information to begin.
Our enquiry form prepares a message for the company WhatsApp. You review it and send it yourself. It is a way to begin shaping a proposal one-to-one, not an instant booking, payment request or guarantee of service availability.
Common questions
Does private mean fully flexible?
Not automatically. Timed entries, transport tickets, supplier conditions and service hours still matter. Agree the limits and costs of changes before booking.
Can friends use the same planning service?
Yes. China Storyline plans for families and private groups of friends. Tell us the interests and pace of the whole party so the proposal works for everyone.
